René Costy (1917-1997) started as a classical violinist, fell in love with jazz during World War II, and then built a career in radio and television as a sound engineer, composing music as needed in all genres.
Along the way he produced many library music records. Most of these efforts came in the 1970s, and we will now explore some mood music from these releases.
- The album The Strings Orchestra (1970s), arranged by Frank Engelen and Janko Nilovic and recorded at the Brussels Madeleine Studio, was a "A special radio - tv record," the No. 3 released by Selection Records, a Belgian library music label. From this album comes Puesta De Sol (Sunset) written by René Costy and Janou (pseudonym for Lydia Altmann). Not sure who sings the vocals but they're very well done.
- Sunset Bay by Bracca (pseudonym for Frank Engelen) and Tysco (pseudonym for René Costy) was on Chappell Mood Music Vol. 25 (1972) with the New String Sound ("NSS") Orchestra directed by Costy.
- Langoroso, and Cry Again by Willy Albimoor (1924-2004), were on the next Chappell Mood Music album No. 26 (1972), for which Albimoor provided the arrangements. The songs were also released on the label's international series as René Costy And His Music – Small Group Sounds (1974). Langoroso is a pop song from the islands. Cry Again is a melancholic guitar 'wawa.'
- From Romantisme d'hier et d'aujourd'hui (Romanticism from yesterday and today) (1976) comes Sentimental Promenade by Frank Burns (pseudonym of Frank Engelen) and Janou.
- Claudine Serenade by Nalva (pseudonym for Gus Decock) and Tysco (for piano and electric guitar), Crying Guitar by Lydia Altmann and Nalva (for piano and electric guitar), and Douce Jeanne (Sweet Jeanne) by Lydia Altmann and Nalva (electronic piano, organ, and bass guitar) come from the album Sérénades, Romances, Ballades (1977).
- Bucolique No. 2, written by Lydia Altmann and Costy, for oboe and harp and Idyle Bucolique by Lahna (pseudonym for Jacqueline Van Hal) and Costy come from the album Bucolique & Pastoral (1978).
- Brise Marine (Sea Breeze) from A special radio - tv record No. 10, Kaleidoscope No. 2 - Rallentando is as good an underwater electronic library track as it will get.
- To conclude this survey on Costy's mood music, here is another dreamy track: South Wind by Costy and Gabrielle Van Weynen from the album Rêves et Ballades (Dreams and Ballads).
