Alexander Tikhonovich Gretchaninov (1864 - 1956) was a Russian romantic composer, born 150 years ago, who eventually emigrated first to France and then to the United States. He is buried not too far from my home, and maybe this summer I will look up his grave.
Here is "The Mercy of Peace" from Liturgia Domestica, composed in 1917. The message must have been as poignant then as it is now. Hopefully Mr. Gretchaninov found peace toward the end of his life on Jersey soil.
